Technology, performance, reliability and environmental compatibility are the chief qualities of the Twin Spark engines. Twin Spark means double ignition, i.e. there are two spark plugs for each cylinder. The two sparks improve fuel burn, with benefits in terms of engine power, reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions. The result is a sparkling performance engine, with a smooth power delivery making it responsive and at the same time easy to control.

There are two Alfa Romeo Twin Spark engines: 1.6 and 2.0, both able to offer excellent combustion control and therefore tremendous flexibility. Both come with twin overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, double ignition, variable timing, hydraulic tappets and eight counterweights plus torsional damping on the crankshaft. The unique Twin Spark engine is the evolution and embodiment of all the experience of Alfa Romeo.
